Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has issued a warning to Hezbollah, stating that the group will “pay an increasing price” as Israel intensifies its attacks on southern Lebanon. This comes after Hezbollah promised retaliation over recent device attacks against its members in Lebanon and Syria. Israeli warplanes have targeted multiple towns in southern Lebanon, leading to fears of a wider escalation in the region. The Israeli military claims to have struck approximately 100 rocket-launchers and other infrastructure, but casualties remain unclear. Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah has condemned the attacks on his members, pledging to continue operations against Israel until the aggression on Gaza stops. Hezbollah’s support was appreciated by Hamas, frustrating Israel’s attempts to undermine their support front in Gaza. A ceasefire between Israel and Hamas has been called for by the White House spokesperson, who also emphasized the US’s stance against any Iran-backed threats. A preliminary investigation by Lebanese authorities found that the device explosions were caused by implants with explosives and were detonated via electronic messages. Israel and Hezbollah have been engaged in a low-level conflict since Israel’s assault on Gaza, with recent escalations sparking fears of further violence.
