ANAHEIM — The Los Angeles Angels have decided to end the season early for their top prospect, 20-year-old pitcher Caden Dana. Dana, who had a 10.45 ERA after three major league starts, has been optioned back to the minors to prevent him from getting discouraged. Manager Ron Washington stated that they wanted to protect Dana from negative vibes and let him rest after a long year.
Dana made history as the youngest pitcher to start a game for the Angels in over 50 years, winning his debut game against the Seattle Mariners. However, in his subsequent starts, he struggled and gave up 10 runs in just over four innings. Washington suggested that Dana’s performance may have been affected by the workload he has had this season, with over 145 innings pitched.
Left-hander Kenny Rosenberg has been recalled to replace Dana on the roster, but he will be utilized in the bullpen. The Angels will return to a five-man rotation for the rest of the season, featuring Reid Detmers, Tyler Anderson, José Suarez, Griffin Canning, and Jack Kochanowicz.
In other news, second baseman Christian Moore has been moved to the instructional league, delaying his potential MLB debut. Outfielder Mickey Moniak is day-to-day after being hit by a pitch, while Kevin Pillar is expected to return from a thumb injury before the end of the season. Infielder Brandon Drury remains sidelined with a hamstring injury.
The Angels are set to face the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday, with Griffin Canning scheduled to start on the mound. The game will be broadcast on Bally Sports West and 830 AM radio.
