Family members and friends of the victims of the Uvalde school shooting expressed anger and frustration towards former school district police officer Adrian Gonzales and former police chief Pete Arredondo during a procedural hearing. The shooting in 2022 resulted in the deaths of 19 children and two teachers, making it one of the worst mass school shootings on record. Officers were criticized for taking more than 70 minutes to enter the classroom and stop the gunman, who was armed with an AR-15 style rifle. Arredondo has been accused of failing to assume command during the incident. Both Arredondo and Gonzales have been charged in connection with the massacre, with Arredondo facing 10 counts and Gonzales facing 29 felony counts of endangering a child. The families of the victims expressed frustration with the slow pace of the case and attacked the 38th Judicial District Attorney for delays. The shooter was eventually stopped by a Border Patrol tactical team, but a report criticized the agents for failing to establish command and for mishandling gunshot victims. The families continue to seek justice for their lost loved ones and have expressed their outrage towards the officers charged in connection with the tragic event.
