Lionel Messi is set to make his return to the pitch for Inter Miami in their upcoming MLS game against Philadelphia Union after being sidelined for over two months with an ankle injury. The Argentine star suffered the injury in July during the Copa America final, but has since recovered and is back in training with the team. Inter Miami coach Gerardo Martino confirmed Messi’s availability for the game on Saturday and expressed his excitement at having the best player in the world back in the team.
Despite missing several games, Messi has been in top form this season, recording 12 goals and 13 assists in just 12 MLS matches. His impressive stats have helped Inter Miami climb to the top of the Eastern Conference standings and they are now closing in on the Supporters’ Shield and a top playoff seed.
Martino also mentioned that Messi had a brief setback with a sore throat earlier in the week, but has since fully recovered and is ready to return to action. The 37-year-old forward has been key for both Inter Miami and the Argentine national team, and his absence was felt during Argentina’s recent World Cup qualifiers, where they suffered a surprising loss to Colombia.
With Messi back in the lineup, fans are eager to see the star player in action once again and are hopeful that he can continue to lead Inter Miami to success in the remaining games of the season.
