Francine loses strength as it travels inland, causing more rain

Category 2 Hurricane Francine made landfall in Louisiana with heavy rains and 100-mph winds, causing power outages for over 150,000 customers in the state. Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry toured affected areas and emphasized the importance of restoring power. Despite the storm’s impact, there have been no reported deaths. In New Orleans, neighborhoods lost power, streets were blocked by debris, and residents used generators. Ordinary people, such as nurse Miles Crawford, performed heroic acts to save others during the storm. Francine, now a post-tropical cyclone, continued to bring heavy rainfall to parts of the Southeastern U.S., posing a risk of flash flooding and urban flooding. Residents were urged to stay off the roads to allow utility workers to restore power. Entergy stated that it may take several days to restore power to affected areas in Louisiana, with some areas not expected to have electricity until Monday. The storm’s impact extended to parts of northern Mississippi, northeast Arkansas, southwest Kentucky, and western Georgia. Despite the cancellations of most warnings for Francine, the storm’s aftermath continued to cause challenges for residents in affected regions.
