Pepperdine University honors the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks with the annual “Waves of Flags” event, where 350 alumni, students, and volunteers raise American flags and flags representing foreign countries that lost citizens on that day. This tradition, started by students in 2008, will be on display until September 27.
In addition to this event, various locations are hosting remembrance ceremonies on September 11, including the Beverly Hills Memorial Garden, Culver City Fire Station, Alhambra Fire Department Headquarters, City of Long Beach Fire Station 1, and the Los Angeles Fire Department’s Frank Hotchkin Memorial Training Center. Special guests at the Los Angeles Fire Department event include Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and Los Angeles County Fire Department Fire Chief Anthony C. Marrone.
Participants are also encouraged to take a photo of the sky on September 11 as part of the “Remember the Sky” initiative by the 9/11 Memorial & Museum in NYC, using hashtags #neverforget911 and #rememberthesky on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and X.
Additionally, several memorial locations, including the Alhambra Fire Department Headquarters, Beverly Hills Memorial Garden, Manhattan Beach Fire Department Station, City of Rosemead Civic Center Plaza, Los Angeles Fire Department Station 88, and Signal Hill Unity Monument, are open for visitors to pay their respects to the victims of 9/11.
