Line fire continues to grow, putting over 35,400 homes and structures at risk, spanning 17,459 acres – Daily News

The Line fire near Highland has grown to 17,459 acres with zero containment, prompting additional evacuation warnings as the number of homes at risk rose to 35,405. The fire, fueled by thunderstorm outflow winds and dry conditions, is proving difficult to control due to limited resources and logistical support. Evacuation orders were issued for Angelus Oaks, Seven Oaks, and Mountain Home Village. The fire, which started in the San Bernardino Mountains, has prompted closures of Highway 330 and Highway 18. Cal Fire reported that 8,733 structures are threatened, including homes and commercial buildings. The fire has generated significant smoke that has spread to neighboring areas and created its own clouds and lightning strikes. Firefighters are expected to face challenges from the hot and dry conditions mixed with thunderstorms in the coming days. The agency noted that the steep terrain and lack of access have hindered crews’ ability to access some areas of the blaze. The South Coast Air Quality Management District has extended a smoke advisory due to the massive volumes of smoke produced by the fire. The National Weather Service reported that the fire was so intense it created its own clouds and lightning strikes. As the situation continues to develop, residents are advised to stay updated on evacuation orders and fire containment efforts.
