Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill was detained by police before the team’s Week 1 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The incident occurred near the team’s home stadium during a traffic stop. Despite being briefly detained, Hill was released and made it to the stadium in time for the game with the support of his teammates. A video posted on social media showed Hill being handcuffed by police officers.
Hill, who is 30 years old, has a history of legal issues dating back to his time in college. He was previously arrested for assaulting his pregnant girlfriend in 2014 and pleaded guilty to domestic assault. In 2019, he was investigated for a battery incident involving his son, but no charges were filed and the NFL did not discipline him. In 2023, Hill settled with an employee in Miami Beach who accused him of assault after a verbal disagreement, but no charges were filed and the league did not intervene.
Despite his past legal troubles, Hill has been an integral player for the Dolphins for the past three seasons. The police are conducting a review of the recent incident involving Hill, and the team has confirmed that he will be available to play in the game. Hill’s agent and the team have acknowledged the situation, and it remains to be seen if there will be any further repercussions for the player.
