Trump to visit California for high-money fundraisers next week

Former President Trump is set to return to California next week for a pair of high-dollar fundraisers, according to invitations obtained by The Times. One fundraiser will be hosted by Tom and Stacey Siebel in Woodside, with donors being asked to contribute as much as $500,000 per couple. Tom Siebel, a billionaire software developer, is a second cousin once removed of Jennifer Siebel Newsom, the wife of Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom. The second fundraiser in Los Angeles will have top tickets priced at $250,000 per person, but the location and hosts have not been disclosed.

The fundraisers come at a critical time in the campaign season, between the first debate between Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris and Trump’s sentencing on 34 felony counts of falsifying records in relation to a sex scandal that could have impacted his 2016 bid. Trump’s vice presidential running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, will also be raising money in Los Angeles, as will Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff.

The attention on California in these final weeks of the presidential campaign highlights the significant role the state plays in funding campaigns for both parties. Despite its largely Democratic voter base, California is home to a large number of Republican donors as well, making it a crucial source of donations for candidates. Harris has raised $65.5 million from Californians for her presidential campaign, while Trump has raised $24.8 million, making it the second-largest source of donations for both candidates.
