American tennis player Jessica Pegula breaks her Grand Slam quarterfinal curse with a big upset over top-ranked Iga Swiatek at the U.S. Open, securing her spot in the semifinals for the first time. Pegula, who has won 14 of her past 15 matches, will face unseeded Karolina Muchova in the next round. Muchova, the runner-up to Swiatek at the 2023 French Open, also made it to the semifinals with a victory over No. 22 seed Beatriz Haddad Maia.
In the men’s semifinals, Taylor Fritz will face Frances Tiafoe, while Jack Draper advanced to the final four without dropping a set. In mixed doubles, Donald Young and Taylor Townsend are aiming to win the title as Young plans to retire from tennis after the U.S. Open.
The tournament also features No. 13 Emma Navarro and No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka in the women’s semifinals, with Navarro ending defending champion Coco Gauff’s title defense in the fourth round. The U.S. Open will showcase multiple American men and women in the semifinal round for the first time since 2003, adding excitement to the competition.
