Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass will attend the closing ceremony of the Paralympic Games in Paris on Sunday, Sept. 8, following her presence at the Olympic closing ceremony last month. As the city prepares to host the 2028 Summer Olympics, an invite-only installation ceremony will take place on Thursday, Sept. 12, at City Hall to display the Olympic and Paralympic flags.
The LA28 Paralympic Handover celebration during the Paris Games closing ceremony will feature Broadway star Ali Stroker, singer Anderson .Paak, and other artists alongside Team USA Paralympians from L.A. The historic moment will mark Los Angeles’ first-ever Paralympic Games and will be broadcast live on CNBC and Peacock.
Following the handover, a musical and movement showcase will take place at Venice Beach with performances from Matthew Whitaker, Gaelynn Lea, and rapper Garnett Silver-Hall. Athletes in adaptive skateboarding and wheelchair motocross, including Oscar Loreto Jr. and Kanya Sesser, will participate. Actress Lauren Ridloff from “The Walking Dead” and Marvel’s “Eternals” will also be featured.
Ezra Frech, a USC track and field athlete who won two gold medals at the Paralympic Games, expressed excitement for Los Angeles hosting the Paralympics for the first time in 2028. He stated that it would be a significant moment for people with disabilities and a memorable experience for himself as an L.A. native.
