Nineteen-year-old Ezra Frech, a Paralympian competing for Team USA, secured his first Paralympic gold medal in the men’s 100-meter T63 final at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. The USC commit achieved a massive personal-best time of 12.06 seconds, narrowly defeating Denmark’s Daniel Wagner and Vinicius Goncalves Rodriguez of Brazil in a photo finish.
Frech, who is the 2023 world champion and world record holder in the high jump T63, expressed his shock and excitement over his unexpected victory. Despite treating the 100-meter race as a warm-up for the high jump event, he managed to secure the gold medal. He credits the energetic atmosphere of the Paralympic Games in Paris to enhancing his performance and is looking forward to carrying this momentum into the Los Angeles 2028 Games.
Competing in front of a live crowd for the first time at the Paralympic Games, Frech described the experience as incredible and highlighted the positive impact of the Games on the Paralympic movement. He is determined to continue his success by aiming for another gold medal in the high jump event.
Frech’s victory marks the sole track and field medal for Team USA on the fourth day of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. His impressive performance solidifies his status as a rising star in the Paralympic community and reinforces his dedication to achieving further success in future competitions.
