Johnny Gaudreau’s wife, Meredith Gaudreau, has spoken out for the first time since the NHL star and his brother were fatally struck by a suspected drunk driver while biking in New Jersey. She expressed her love for Johnny and called him the best partner and father. Johnny, 31, and his brother Matthew, 29, were supposed to be groomsmen in their sister Katie’s wedding the day after the accident. The driver, 43-year-old Sean Higgins, attempted to pass vehicles and struck the brothers while they were biking on a narrow shoulder. Johnny and Matthew were pronounced dead at the scene. Higgins had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and failed a sobriety test. He admitted to consuming five to six beers before the accident. Higgins was charged with two counts of death by auto and could face up to 10 years in prison. The Gaudreau family is deeply saddened by the loss of Johnny and Matthew. Meredith expressed her love and gratitude for the time they shared, calling Johnny the love of her life. She shared photos of their family on Instagram, reminiscing about the good times they had together. Higgins will remain in jail until his detention trial on September 5. The family is mourning the loss of their loved ones and seeking justice for their deaths.
