Jaguar advises to park older I-Pace electric SUVs outside due to fire hazard – Daily News

Jaguar has issued a recall for about 3,000 electric SUVs due to the risk of battery fires, advising owners to park them outdoors and away from structures. The British automaker will update the battery energy control computer as an interim fix to limit charging to 80% of capacity until a final remedy is developed. This is the fourth recall for the same problem, with previous updates to diagnostic software. Despite three fires in the U.S. after previous software updates, no injuries were reported. The I-Pace batteries were made by LG Energy Solution in Poland, under investigation by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for potential defects causing fires or stalling. Other automakers including General Motors, Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai, Stellantis, and Volkswagen have issued recalls since 2020 due to battery failures leading to fire risks. General Motors, for example, recalled over 140,000 Chevrolet Bolt EVs due to rare manufacturing defects in battery cells causing fires. The recalls highlight the importance of addressing potential battery defects in electric and hybrid vehicles to ensure safety. Messages seeking comment were left for Jaguar and LG Energy Solution in response to the ongoing investigation. Owners of the affected I-Pace SUVs are urged to follow safety precautions until a permanent solution is put in place to prevent battery fires.
