Jay Shah, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has been elected unopposed as the next chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). This makes him the youngest-ever person to hold this prestigious position. Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has expressed his confidence in Shah’s leadership abilities, stating that he believes the world game will flourish even more under his tenure as ICC chairman.
Gavaskar highlighted Shah’s achievements during his term as BCCI secretary, such as launching the Women’s Premier League, equalizing fees for Indian women international cricketers with the men’s team, increasing pension for retired cricketers, introducing incentives for availability in Test and white-ball internationals, and implementing prize money for domestic tournaments. Additionally, the state-of-the-art National Cricket Academy in Bangalore was established during Shah’s tenure.
Gavaskar praised Shah for his efforts in advancing Indian cricket and believes that these initiatives will benefit not only Indian cricket but also the international cricket community under his leadership at the ICC.
