Ontario, California – Fans of the classic baseball movie “A League of Their Own” and residents of Ontario, California were devastated to learn that the Jay Littleton Ball Park, where Tom Hanks’ character famously declared “there’s no crying in baseball,” burned down in a fire on Thursday night. The fire broke out around 11:30 p.m. and quickly engulfed the dugout and stands. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, but the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The ballpark, located at Grove Avenue and 4th Street, is owned by the city of Ontario and has been a historic landmark since 2003. In addition to being featured in “A League of Their Own,” the park has also been used as a filming location for “The X-Files,” “Eight Men Out,” and “The Babe,” which tells the story of baseball legend Babe Ruth.
