Jonathan Bloomer, the Morgan Stanley International Chairman, and his wife, as well as Clifford Chance lawyer Chris Morvillo and his wife, are among the missing individuals from the shipwreck that occurred near Palermo. At least one person, the ship’s cook, has been confirmed dead. Rescue operations are ongoing, with divers unable to access the ship’s cabins due to the storm’s timing. Italy’s national fire department and coast guard are involved in the search efforts, using remote-operated underwater vehicles to aid in locating potential survivors. The ship, Bayesian, owned by a firm linked to Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares, capsized in rough weather conditions. Built by Perini Navi in 2008, the Bayesian could accommodate 12 guests and a crew of up to 10. Lynch, often referred to as “Britain’s Bill Gates,” was acquitted of fraud charges related to the sale of his software company Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard in 2011. The ship had a nearly 250-foot mast, touted as the tallest aluminum sailing mast in the world. Survivors of the tragedy have been taken to safety at the Coast Guard Headquarters near Palermo. The search and rescue efforts continue in hopes of finding more individuals who may still be trapped inside the ship.
