Celebrities join Democrats in turning roll call into a lively dance party

Democrats took the convention roll call to a new level on Tuesday, turning it into a dance party featuring DJ Cassidy spinning special songs for each state awarding delegates to Vice President Kamala Harris at the Democratic National Convention. The event showcased a mix of musical genres, with artists like Eminem, Tupac Shakur, and Dropkick Murphys being featured. The goal was to bring some joy and positive energy to the party, despite the serious warnings about the need to beat Republican nominee Donald Trump.

The roll call also featured emerging political stars from the Democratic party, including Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Maryland Gov. Wes Moore. Musical choices were carefully curated to represent each state, from Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama” for Alabama to Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the USA” for New Jersey.

Despite the festive atmosphere, there were also moments of seriousness, such as Texas’ Kate Cox sharing her personal experience with abortion access in the state. In a display of unity, all votes for any other person or uncommitted votes were tallied as “present” during the roll call.

Overall, Democrats aimed to project a sense of unity and enthusiasm as they officially nominated Vice President Kamala Harris for president. The event served as a bold and energetic kickoff to the party’s efforts to defeat Donald Trump in the upcoming election.
