Zelenskyy: Kursk incursion aimed at creating buffer zone to deter Russian attacks

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that the military incursion into Russia’s Kursk region is aimed at creating a buffer zone to prevent further attacks by Moscow. This operation, launched on August 6, has already shown successful results in destroying Russian equipment near Toretsk. Zelenskyy has called on international allies, particularly the United States, the United Kingdom, and France, to expedite the delivery of much-needed military hardware to the battlefield.

The Ukrainian military has released footage showing the destruction of key bridges in Kursk, disrupting Russian supply routes and signaling Ukraine’s intention to dig in. Despite Russian forces struggling to drive out Ukrainian troops, Kyiv’s forces have seized several villages, taken prisoners, and forced civilian evacuations. The operation is the largest attack on Russia since World War II and aims to change the dynamic of the conflict without intending to occupy Russian territories.

Zelenskyy’s senior aide, Mykhailo Podolyak, emphasized that this military action in Kursk is designed to persuade Russia to engage in a fair negotiation process rather than territorial expansion. The Ukrainian president’s call for international support and the strategic success of the operation highlight Ukraine’s determination to defend its sovereignty against ongoing Russian aggression.
