List of Major Events in the Russia-Ukraine War on Day 906

The war between Ukraine and Russia has entered its 906th day, with ongoing developments on Monday, August 19, 2024. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the August 6 incursion into Russia’s Kursk region was to create a buffer zone. Ukrainian forces destroyed a strategically important bridge over the Seym River and a drone attack triggered a fire at an oil storage facility in Russia’s Rostov region.

Russia’s Ministry of Defence reported taking control of a village near Ukraine’s Donetsk region, and Ukraine acknowledged Russian ballistic missile attacks on Kyiv, which were reportedly shot down. Zelenskyy claimed that Russia launched a significant number of missiles, guided aerial bombs, and drones against Ukrainian targets. The safety at Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant was also a concern after a drone strike.

In politics and diplomacy, North Korea condemned Ukraine’s actions in Russia as an “act of terror” and expressed support for Russia. Russian President Vladimir Putin visited Azerbaijan for talks on bilateral relations and regional issues. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko claimed that Ukraine had stationed numerous soldiers along the border with Belarus, prompting a deployment of Belarusian troops.

The situation remains tense as both sides continue to engage in military actions and diplomatic efforts. International bodies like the IAEA are monitoring the situation closely amidst concerns about the safety of nuclear facilities. The conflict shows no signs of resolution as both sides remain committed to their respective strategies.
