Hector Berrios Dominates Weekend Races, Guides Moment’s Pleasure to Victory at Del Mar – Daily News

Jockey Hector Berrios swept the weekend’s turf stakes races at Del Mar, winning the Solana Beach Stakes with Moment’s Pleasure after triumphing in the Del Mar Oaks on Saturday. Berrios denied jockey Antonio Fresu a fourth win on the day with a strong ride, guiding Moment’s Pleasure to a 1¾ length victory. Trainer Craig Lewis praised Berrios’ ride and noted the development of Moment’s Pleasure. Fresu had earlier clinched three wins on the day, while Glatt and Frey also had successful outings. Looking ahead, the Grade II Pat O’Brien Stakes promises excitement with notable nominees. The Chosen Vron, Senor Buscador, Arabian Knight, and Prince of Monaco are among the entrants, with The Chosen Vron on a six-race winning streak and a berth in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint secured. Trainer J. Eric Kruljac is managing The Chosen Vron’s training schedule carefully after last year’s disappointing Breeders’ Cup finish. In other racing news, the top finishers from the San Diego Handicap and Cougar II Stakes are gearing up for the $1 million Pacific Classic. Notably, two Bob Baffert-trained horses were upset in maiden races on Sunday. Mirahmadi and Usha, both heavily favored, faced unexpected defeats. Tenma, owned by Bobby Flay, emerged victorious in the maiden special weight race. The excitement continues to build at Del Mar as the summer meeting progresses.
