Kamala Harris is set to formally accept the Democratic party’s nomination for president in Chicago alongside running mate Tim Walz. The convention will take place from August 19-22 and will feature speeches from notable figures like Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and Bill Clinton. The convention aims to unify the party, boost enthusiasm for the ticket, and formally nominate the candidates. The convention will be livestreamed online and on major news networks, with protests expected outside the event to push for anti-war demands. The next presidential debate is scheduled for September 10, with additional debates planned for October. The convention will showcase up-and-coming Democrats like Gretchen Whitmer and Wes Moore, as well as political influencers like Daniel Denvir. Harris and Walz were officially nominated in August through a virtual roll call vote, and will formally accept the nomination at the convention. Protests are expected to take place outside the convention, as well as inside with uncommitted delegates pushing for anti-war demands. Chicago, with a large Palestinian population, is the location for the convention, bringing attention to the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The convention will also focus on the party’s platform and speeches from various political figures, with over 5,000 delegates and 50,000 total visitors expected to attend.
