Ohio State star Archie Griffin statue revealed at Rose Bowl

Archie Griffin, legendary Ohio State football player and two-time Heisman Trophy winner, was honored by the Rose Bowl with a statue unveiling ceremony. The statue, placed alongside monuments of other sports icons, recognizes Griffin’s impressive career accomplishments and impact on the sport of football. Now a resident of Pasadena in addition to his hometown of Columbus, Griffin expressed gratitude for the recognition and attributed his success to the teams he played on.

Griffin, who turns 70 this week, won four Big Ten titles with Ohio State and remains the only player to win the Heisman Trophy twice. He recalled his experiences playing in the Rose Bowl, where he competed in four consecutive games with the Buckeyes. Despite a 1-3 record in those bowl games, Griffin reflected on the memories and experiences of training and playing in California.

The Rose Bowl also gifted a similar statue to Ohio State to commemorate Griffin’s impact on the university and the sport as a whole. Dedan Brozino, president of the Rose Bowl Legacy Foundation, praised Griffin for his contributions both on and off the field, highlighting his philanthropic efforts and commitment to giving back to the community. The statue serves as a lasting tribute to Griffin’s legacy as a football player and as a role model for future generations to follow in his footsteps.
