Two East Coast invaders are set to challenge the top finishers of the Grade 2 San Clemente Stakes in the upcoming $300,000 Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks. Iscreamuscream and Zona Verde, who finished 1-2 in the San Clemente, lead the field of eight, alongside shippers Whiskey Decision and Buchu. Iscreamuscream, undefeated in three starts, is the favorite, while Whiskey Decision is the second favorite. Trainer Phil D’Amato has high hopes for both fillies in the turf test for 3-year-old fillies.
In a recent race, Sunset Glory won the $100,000 CTT & TOC Stakes by overtaking favorite Linda’s Gift in the final stretch, with jockey Umberto Rispoli guiding her to victory. Sunset Glory’s trainer, Michael McCarthy, was impressed by her performance in the marathon distance race.
Lastly, popular horse The Chosen Vron is expected to appear in the Grade 2 Pat O’Brien Stakes at Del Mar, possibly facing Saudi Cup winner Senor Buscador. Trainer J. Eric Kruljac is optimistic about The Chosen Vron’s chances after his recent wins and preparations for the upcoming race.
