The Consulate General of Mexico in Los Angeles has launched a new ‘Consulate on Wheels’ program, bringing consular services closer to the Mexican community in Pacoima and surrounding areas, where many residents face challenges reaching the main consulate in MacArthur Park. The program, located at Pacoima City Hall, offers services such as Mexican passports, IDs, and voting cards by appointment until August 31, aiming to serve 200 people a day. Councilmember Monica Rodriguez was instrumental in bringing the mobile consulate to the Valley, emphasizing the importance of providing essential services directly to immigrant communities. Consul General Carlos González Gutiérrez highlighted the accessibility of the new site, with free parking, air conditioning, and ample space, making it easier for Mexican immigrants to access services. The program is part of an initiative to bring consulate services to various immigrant communities throughout L.A. County, with additional mobile units operating in other locations. Appointments can be scheduled by phone, WhatsApp, or online, and in emergencies, the consulate is available to assist even without an appointment. The collaboration between Councilmember Rodriguez and the Mexican Consulate showcases a commitment to serving immigrant populations and fostering partnerships to expand access to vital resources. The positive reception of the program highlights the importance of these services to the community and the value of bringing government services directly to those in need.
