Former President Donald Trump held a chaotic press conference at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, where he made wild claims about a helicopter ride with Willie Brown, a veteran California politician who briefly dated Kamala Harris, now his Democratic rival in the presidential election. Trump claimed to know Brown well and described a harrowing helicopter ride they had together, but it turned out he was actually referring to a ride with former California governor Jerry Brown. Willie Brown had nothing bad to say about Harris, and the pair dated nearly 30 years ago with no hard feelings.
The helicopter ride with Jerry Brown happened in 2018 to inspect wildfire damage, and there was no emergency landing or discussion of Kamala Harris. Current California governor Gavin Newsom was also on the flight and confirmed that Trump repeatedly brought up the subject of crashing, but they did not talk about Harris.
Trump’s press conference was an attempt to criticize Harris for her lack of public events since becoming the presumptive Democratic nominee. However, the event was described as chaotic and bad-tempered, with many viewing it as an act of desperation on Trump’s part as Harris continues to surge in popularity on the campaign trail while he flounders. The former president’s false claims and lies about the helicopter ride only added to the confusion surrounding the event and did little to reset the campaign narrative.
