Lazar Dukic, a 28-year-old CrossFit athlete from Serbia, tragically passed away while competing in the swimming portion of the CrossFit Games in Fort Worth, Texas. The Tarrant County medical examiner’s office confirmed his identity after his body was recovered from Marine Creek Lake. The cause of death has not been disclosed.
In response to the incident, CrossFit Games organizers expressed their deep sadness and suspended the remaining events for the day, prioritizing the well-being of all competitors. Fort Worth Fire Department and Police Department officials were called to the scene to assist in locating Dukic’s body, which was found after an hour-long search by the dive team.
CrossFit CEO Don Faul and Fort Worth Police Department Sgt. Leah Wagner addressed the media, expressing their condolences and emphasizing the tight-knit community within CrossFit. Dukic, a 4-time CrossFit Games athlete, was a highly respected member of the community and had a significant impact on those who knew him.
Fellow competitor Cole Learn recalled a brief encounter with Dukic, highlighting his kindness and genuine nature. Dukic had achieved great success in CrossFit, ranking as Serbia’s top athlete from 2017-2021 and earning a spot at the 2024 CrossFit Games alongside his brother Luka Dukic.
