Daily News: Angels bullpen secures narrow win against Mets

The Angels made a strong showing in their recent game against the New York Mets, securing a 3-2 victory with the help of their revamped bullpen. Following the trade of two key relievers, the team is testing out new pitchers to see who can step up to the challenge. Ben Joyce looks to be a frontrunner for the closer role, but José Marte, Mike Baumann, and Roansy Contreras proved their worth in Sunday’s game.

Contreras earned his second save of the season with a flawless inning, while Marte and Baumann also delivered solid performances. Marte retired six of seven batters over two innings, lowering his ERA to 2.55, while Baumann escaped a tight spot in the eighth inning. The Angels are hopeful that Baumann can regain his form from last year, where he held a 3.76 ERA with the Baltimore Orioles.

Starting pitcher Griffin Canning also played a crucial role in the win, tossing five innings and giving up just two runs, one earned. Despite a lackluster offensive performance, the Angels managed to edge out the Mets with timely hits and strong pitching.

Manager Ron Washington’s motivational visit to Canning on the mound proved critical as he retired the next two batters to maintain the lead. The team’s resilience and determination were on full display as they narrowly secured the series victory.

With the Angels continuing to experiment with their bullpen and search for offensive consistency, there is much anticipation for their upcoming games. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
