Tropical Storm Debby, previously a potential tropical cyclone, has strengthened as it moves towards the west coast of Florida. The storm is expected to reach hurricane strength before making landfall late Sunday night or Monday. With sustained winds between 39-73 mph, Debby has prompted hurricane and tropical storm warnings for the state’s west coast from the Suwannee River to the Ochlockonee River. Forecast cones show the storm moving ashore roughly from Apalachee Bay to Big Bend Seagrasses Aquatic Preserve. The storm is bringing the potential for a storm surge of 2 to 7 feet and up to 18 inches of rain in some areas. Residents are advised to prepare for hurricane-like impacts as Debby continues its northward path towards Florida.
