Longtime WGNO-TV sports director, Ed Daniels, a New Orleans native, suffered a heart attack while covering the New Orleans Saints training camp in Southern California. The 67-year-old has been hospitalized, according to sources close to his family. Daniels, who has been with WGNO since 1992 and is the city’s longest-running sports director, is a two-time Louisiana Sportscaster of the Year. A graduate of Archbishop Rummel High School and Loyola University, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Press Club of New Orleans in 2014. WGNO officials have not yet commented on the situation. Fans and colleagues are sending their thoughts and prayers for Daniels’ recovery as he remains in the hospital. We wish Ed Daniels a speedy and full recovery during this difficult time.
