Jake Pazanti and Bennet Tchaikovsky emerged victorious in the 18 and under Gold Division bracket at the AVP Junior National Championships in Hermosa Beach. The duo, who primarily play indoor volleyball and will be playing collegiately next year at Long Beach State and New York University, respectively, defeated Ellison and Elijah Morgan in three sets to claim the championship title. Despite dropping their first match of the week, Pazanti and Tchaikovsky went on to win three consecutive bracket games to secure the win.
Their victory was attributed to their indoor skills translating well to the sand, with Pazanti utilizing an effective jump serve and Tchaikovsky mixing powerful hits to find gaps in the defense. The pair’s teamwork and experience playing together for four years in high school contributed to their success. This win marks a significant achievement for the duo, as they had finished third in the previous two years and only played three tournaments this beach season.
Pazanti and Tchaikovsky expressed pride in representing Huntington Beach and emphasized the benefits of playing beach volleyball to improve their indoor game. The pair’s ability to maintain their composure and power through fatigue in the decisive third set ultimately led them to victory. The duo’s strong performance and determination in the face of tough competition at the national level exemplify their dedication to the sport and their successful partnership on the court.
