Lawhorn: Embracing Circles Over Sides | Lifestyle

In a time when political divides seem insurmountable, Zoe Lawhorn, president of the Women’s Fund of Smith County, reminds us of the importance of coming together to focus on shared values and goals. The Women’s Fund is a collective giving circle of over 360 women who work towards enriching the lives of women and children in Smith County through impact grants.

Lawhorn acknowledges the fear and polarization that permeate American society but emphasizes the importance of finding common ground and working towards shared missions. The Women’s Fund members, despite their diverse beliefs and backgrounds, come together with a shared belief in the power of philanthropy and giving back to the community.

Since its founding in 2009, the Women’s Fund has granted over $3.2 million to 34 Smith County nonprofits, funding projects such as a mobile Planetarium for the Discovery Science place and supporting women’s health services through Bethesda Health Clinic. By focusing on their shared mission, the Women’s Fund members have been able to make a real and lasting impact on their community.

Amidst a culture of division and partisanship, Lawhorn encourages individuals to seek out circles, not sides, and join groups dedicated to making their community a better place for all. By focusing on shared values and working towards common goals, we can overcome polarization and make a positive difference in the world around us.
