First U.S. medals served up by synchronized divers Sarah Bacon and Kassidy Cook

American divers Kassidy Cook and Sarah Bacon won silver in the women’s 3-meter synchronized springboard event at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. The duo, known as Cook N’ Bacon, secured America’s first medal of the games with a score of 314.64, sandwiched between the gold-winning Chinese team and the British bronze medalists. Cook, a 29-year-old from Houston, competed in Rio in 2016, making her the first U.S. diver to compete in non-consecutive games. Bacon, a 27-year-old from Indianapolis, narrowly missed making the U.S. diving team for Tokyo but said that disappointment led her to the silver medal in Paris. The Chinese team, led by Chang and Chen, maintained a strong lead throughout the competition, pushing Cook and Bacon to perform their best. The friends turned teammates credited their familiarity and friendship for their winning performance, diving together since 2019. Cook expressed her excitement and gratitude for ending up on the medal stand with one of her best friends. Bacon, who had initially planned to retire after missing the Tokyo Olympics, described the silver medal as unbelievable. The duo noted that the competition with China motivated them to perform at their best and ultimately secure the silver medal.
