Two additional Democratic lawmakers urge Biden to drop out of US presidential race | US Election 2024 Updates

Senator Jon Tester and House Representative Jim Costa have added their voices to calls for President Joe Biden to step aside and end his re-election campaign. Tester, the second senator to make such a statement, cited Biden’s commitment to public service but ultimately stated that he should not seek re-election. Costa also urged Biden to “pass the torch” to the next generation. This brings the total number of Congressional Democrats calling for Biden to drop out to 25.

Concerns about Biden’s ability to defeat his Republican opponent, Donald Trump, in November have been growing, particularly regarding the 81-year-old Democrat’s physical and mental fitness. Despite the pressure, Biden has remained adamant about staying in the race, claiming he is the most qualified candidate to beat Trump and dismissing criticisms as being fueled by Democratic elites and the media.

In contrast, Trump has been gaining momentum in the polls since Biden’s lackluster debate performance last month. The recent assassination attempt on Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania is also expected to bolster his standing even further. A poll average on FiveThirtyEight website shows Trump leading Biden by 3.1 percentage points nationally.

As the pressure on Biden continues to mount, the future of the Democratic Party’s presidential campaign remains uncertain. With the race heating up and the election drawing near, all eyes are on Biden and Trump as they vie for the nation’s highest office.
