A major internet outage affecting Microsoft is causing disruptions across the world, including in airlines, banks, media outlets, and companies. While Microsoft is working to fix the issue with access to Microsoft 365 apps and services, the impact is still significant. Banks in South Africa experienced service disruptions, leading to payment issues for customers. London Stock Exchange faced disruptions but trading was not affected. Long queues and flight cancellations were reported at airports globally, with Berlin’s airport gradually returning to normal operations after flights were impacted.

Pharmacy chains in Norway faced delays in providing prescription medication due to the global network problems, while Paris Olympics organizers reported delays in delegations’ arrival and uniform deliveries. In England, internet outages affected most doctor’s offices, and disrupted the appointment and patient record system used by the National Health Service. Airlines across the world reported check-in system disruptions, with some flights grounded or delayed.

The cybersecurity company CrowdStrike, at the center of the IT outage, clarified that the issue was not a cyberattack but a defect in a Windows update. Paris airport systems were not impacted, but airlines and airports globally faced challenges. In the US, several airlines including United, American, Delta, and Allegiant were grounded due to the outage. In Germany, flights at Berlin-Brandenburg Airport were halted, while Baltic container hub in Poland suspended business. Despite the disruptions, efforts are underway to resolve the issue and restore normal operations.
