Caitlin Clark and Sabrina Ionescu opt out of participating in the WNBA 3-point contest

New York Liberty’s Sabrina Ionescu and Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark have declined invitations to participate in the WNBA’s three-point contest as part of All-Star weekend in Phoenix. The participants will instead include Kayla McBride, Stefanie Dolson, Jonquel Jones, and Marina Mabrey. Despite their absence from the contest, both Ionescu and Clark will be playing in the All-Star Game on Saturday, with Ionescu representing Team USA in the Paris Olympics. Ionescu, McBride, Arike Ogunbowale, and Kelsey Plum lead the WNBA in three-pointers per game, with Clark closely behind.

Clark recently set a WNBA record with 19 assists in a game and expressed excitement for the upcoming break during the Olympics. Ionescu, a first-time Olympian, has not confirmed her participation in the three-point contest, stating that she has a lot going on. The skills challenge will feature participants such as Mabrey, Brittney Griner, and Allisha Gray.

In addition, USC legend Cheryl Miller has been announced as the coach of Team WNBA for the All-Star Game. Miller, a three-time Naismith player of the year, led USC to national titles and won an Olympic gold medal before coaching the Trojans and the Mercury. The All-Star weekend promises to be an exciting event, showcasing the talent and skills of some of the WNBA’s top players.
