Additional ten Democrats urge Biden to drop out of 2024 presidential race

Democratic lawmakers are calling on President Joe Biden to step aside as the party’s nominee ahead of the November election. The total number of Hill Democrats who want Biden to leave the race has now surpassed 30. The new defections include ten congressional Democrats, such as two close allies of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and a third senator. These lawmakers believe that it is time for Biden, who is 81 years old, to “pass the torch” to a younger leader to give Democrats the best chance of beating Republican nominee Donald Trump. They argue that widespread public concerns about Biden’s age and fitness are jeopardizing the campaign’s success.

Members of different caucuses, including the Congressional Black Caucus and Congressional Hispanic Caucus, have joined the call for Biden to step aside. They believe that younger leaders, such as Vice President Kamala Harris, should take his place on the ballot to reinvigorate the campaign and boost Democratic enthusiasm.

Despite these calls for him to withdraw, Biden has made it clear that he is not going anywhere and that he has earned the nomination with the support of millions of Democratic primary voters. His campaign manager also stated that Biden still has a path to defeating Trump, despite recent challenges.

Overall, more than 10% of House and Senate Democrats are urging Biden to exit the race, but the president remains adamant about continuing his campaign and securing a second term in office.
