Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo has urged President Joe Biden to reconsider his run for re-election, making him the first Democratic mayor in the state to publicly take this stance. Gordo believes that the American people want a different candidate at the top of the Democratic ticket and that real change is needed. He emphasized that he is not asking the president to step down from the presidency, but rather to think about who is best positioned to protect his legacy and American values.
Gordo, who immigrated to the U.S. from Mexico as a child, expressed concern over the Republican National Convention rhetoric and a return to a time when everyone’s contribution was not valued. He stressed that there are many individuals who could greatly contribute to the country and that turning back the clock is not the direction America should take.
While Gordo did not disclose who he believes would be a better candidate than Biden, he stated that it is a separate issue. His remarks reflect a growing sentiment within the Democratic Party for new leadership, citing Biden’s poor debate performance and increasing concerns about his ability to lead. Rep. Adam Schiff also recently called on Biden to “pass the torch.”
As an individual rather than speaking on behalf of the City Council or Pasadena, Gordo hopes that Biden will heed his call and consider the best interests of the country in deciding on his re-election bid.
