Maverick’s Lines are Cut

Manny Jacinto, known for his role in “Top Gun: Maverick,” recently opened up about his brief appearance in the film. Despite months of preparation, Jacinto’s character, Lt. Billy “Fritz” Avalone, only appeared briefly on screen with no speaking lines, leading to disappointment among fans. Jacinto, who is Filipino Canadian, emphasized the importance of Asian Americans and people of color creating their own opportunities in Hollywood.

In the sequel to the 1986 blockbuster, Jacinto played a character who underwent rigorous training for the role, including flight training and gym sessions. Although fans expressed disappointment over his limited screen time, Jacinto reflected on the experience as being a part of a huge franchise and working alongside Tom Cruise.

Director Joseph Kosinski explained the decision to reduce Jacinto’s role, along with other actors, was based on storytelling and creating the best version of the film. Despite the cuts, Jacinto’s performance in the Disney+ “Star Wars” series “The Acolyte” has been praised for his portrayal of Qimir, a Sith Lord.

Jacinto’s experience in “Top Gun: Maverick” may have been brief, but he remains a rising star in Hollywood, showcasing his talent and versatility in his roles.
