The Anaheim Ducks have re-signed winger Pavol Regenda to a one-year, two-way contract, the team announced on Friday. The 24-year-old Slovakian player had a strong season last year, recording 34 points in 54 games with the San Diego Gulls, the Ducks’ minor-league affiliate, and appearing in five games for the NHL team. Regenda has a total of three points in 19 career NHL games.
Standing at 6-foot-4 and 211 pounds, Regenda could add size and skill to the Ducks’ bottom six, alongside other big players like Brett Leason and Nikita Nesterenko, whom the team also recently re-signed. Regenda has represented Slovakia in multiple World Championships and other international competitions, including winning bronze at the 2022 Winter Olympics.
Despite facing injuries last season, Regenda finished strong in the minors and earned some playing time at the NHL level after the trade deadline. Ducks director of player development, Jim Johnson, expressed confidence in Regenda’s abilities, stating that he expects him to have a strong season and compete for a regular NHL roster spot.
Regenda’s performance in the Slovak pro league prior to joining the Ducks as an undrafted free agent was impressive, and the team sees potential in him as a valuable contributor moving forward. With his size, skill, and international experience, Regenda could become a key player for the Ducks in the upcoming season.
