The Montebello Corridor Grade Separation Project is set to begin on July 8, with a half mile stretch of Montebello Boulevard closing for over three years. The estimated $190.8 million project will construct a bridge at the Union Pacific Railroad crossing at Montebello and Olympic, creating a roadway underpass.
During the closure, Montebello Boulevard will be detoured to Paramount Boulevard on the east and Garfield Avenue on the west. Olympic Boulevard will also be limited to one lane in each direction, with access to local residents and businesses on nearby streets.
The San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments reports that an average of 49 trains per day pass through Montebello, with the boulevard carrying an average of 21,000 vehicles a day. The closure is expected to be in place for three and a half years, with most work scheduled on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and some weekend and night work when necessary.
