Live coverage of stage eight of the Tour de France 2024 as cyclists head to Colombey-les-Deux-Églises

Lidl-Trek rider Julien Bernard has been fined 200CHF for embracing his family during stage seven of the Tour de France, a moment captured by fans on social media. Meanwhile, teammate Mads Pedersen has been forced to abandon the race due to injuries sustained in a crash on stage five. Despite initial x-rays showing no fractures, Pedersen’s pain and limited range of motion in his shoulder have led to the decision to withdraw from the race for further medical evaluation.

Team manager Luca Guercilena expressed disappointment at losing both Pedersen and Tao Geoghegan Hart before the start of the Tour, but remains optimistic about their remaining chances with rider Gianni Moscon. Pedersen, on the other hand, is focused on recovery and preparing for the upcoming Olympics.

The upcoming stage eight of the Tour de France promises a sprint finish, with three categorized climbs in the early sections. The route takes riders to the home and burial place of Charles de Gaulle, with expectations of another bunch sprint at the finish line.

As the race continues, the competition heats up with Remco Evenepoel showcasing his time trial skills and posing a potential challenge to defending champion Tadej Pogacar. With the sprinters and GC teams gearing up for the stage, anything can happen on the roads of the Tour de France.
