Italy’s Mount Etna and Stromboli volcanoes are causing chaos in Sicily as eruptions continue. Catania Airport was temporarily closed due to ash clouds from Etna, with flights resuming later in the day. Catania Mayor Enrico Trantino imposed restrictions on two-wheeled vehicles and reduced speed limits due to ash fallout in the city. Italy’s Civil Protection agency raised the alert level to yellow, warning residents and tourists of the ongoing volcanic activity. The agency advised following instructions from authorities and staying informed through various media channels. Stromboli also erupted, prompting a red alert from the Civil Protection agency, urging heightened vigilance. Fabrizio Curcio, Head of the Civil Protection Department in Italy, emphasized the need for increased surveillance and scientific monitoring on the island. Italy, known for its high concentration of active volcanoes, poses significant volcanic risk to residents. The situation in both Stromboli and Etna remains monitored closely, as authorities work to ensure the safety of those in the affected areas.
