MassBay College and Framingham High School Organize Second Automotive Technology Boot Camp to Enhance the Auto Technician Workforce


MassBay Community College and Framingham High School have partnered for a second consecutive summer to host an automotive technology summer boot camp for 25 rising junior and senior students. The program, funded by Framingham Public School, MassBay, and Youth Connections/MassHire grant, aims to provide hands-on experience in the automotive industry and expose students to potential careers in STEM fields. MassBay’s Automotive Technology Dean, David Protano, emphasized the importance of training technicians amid a shortage in the industry.

The curriculum includes safety and tool maintenance, tire repairs, warranty services, diagnostic processes, and more. Students receive a $1,500 stipend and the opportunity to intern with McGovern Automotive Group upon completion. Framingham High School Vice Principal, Michelle McGahan, highlighted the program’s role in empowering students to explore and develop their passions for future career paths.

Youth Connections grant, in partnership with Framingham High School, focuses on providing STEM internships for underrepresented students. Kat Barry, a participant from last year, expressed newfound interest in the auto tech industry and praised the program for teaching valuable life skills. MassBay’s Auto Technology program, sponsored by major automotive brands, boasts a high placement rate of graduates into full-time jobs. This partnership between MassBay and Framingham High School continues to offer students valuable insight and opportunities in the automotive industry.
