Ferragni, Italian fashion influencer, to donate $1.3 million as part of agreement to resolve antitrust investigation

Italian fashion influencer Chiara Ferragni has agreed to donate at least 1.2 million euros ($1.3 million) under a deal with Italian antitrust authorities following an investigation into misleading communications. The investigation found that consumers were led to believe that proceeds from the purchase of Easter eggs with Ferragni’s logo would go to a children’s charity. Three of Ferragni’s companies will pay 5% of profits over three years, with a minimum set at 1.2 million euros, to a charity for disabled children called Children of the Fairies.

Additionally, the maker of the eggs, Cerealitalia Industrie Dolciare, will pay at least 100,000 euros to the charity. The companies have also agreed to separate their commercial activities from charitable contributions. This settlement comes after Ferragni was fined 1 million euros in January for a similar scheme involving charitable communications tied to sales of a traditional Christmas cake.

The agreements have impacted Ferragni’s reputation, which she has carefully cultivated over the years in the fashion industry. She started as a blogger before becoming a prominent influencer and businesswoman, launching her own clothing, accessory, and makeup brands. Ferragni also served on the board of the Tod’s luxury group, with her three-year term ending in March. The influencer confirmed the deal on social media, showing her commitment to making amends for the misleading communications.
