Elemental Music, a Barcelona-based company, has launched an extensive vinyl reissue campaign of Motown titles, with 30 albums set to be released by March 2025. The series includes iconic artists like the Supremes, Marvin Gaye, and the Jackson 5, with some albums being reissued for the first time since their original release over 50 years ago. Kevin Keeley, of Elemental Music, emphasizes their mission to show love to Motown’s legacy and make the series accessible for all music and vinyl enthusiasts, especially with the surge in vinyl sales among young buyers.
The reissue campaign began with Rare Earth’s 1969 album “Get Ready,” leading to the decision to delve deeper into Motown’s catalog. Elemental prioritizes respecting Motown’s legacy by presenting each album in a reproduction of its original sleeve, on 140-gram vinyl, and including historical context with a sticker. The upcoming releases include mono editions of Marvin Gaye and Mary Wells’ “Together,” the Temptations’ “Cloud Nine,” and a green vinyl version of the Supremes’ “I Hear a Symphony.”
Keeley highlights the enduring legacy of Motown, comparing it to iconic brands like the Beatles and Coca-Cola, which transcend cultural boundaries. Elemental’s listening sessions at their headquarters have confirmed the universal appeal of Motown’s sound. The Motown reissue series aims to introduce the label’s historic music to a contemporary audience and pay homage to artists who shaped popular music history.
